SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The new architectural technologies department aims to be fluid, versatile and bright. The premise of the project consisted of the creation of a spatial unity between the teaching, study, printing and functional spaces. The initial busy schedule was a challenge and it was thanks to the close collaboration between faculty, administration and professionals that SBTA was able to offer spaces corresponding to the various types of teaching; theoretical, practical and artistic, in a complete and coherent reduced program.
CONCEPT
The construction of a massive wall made it possible to unify the spaces which were previously dispersed into two volumes. The succession of windows, aligned on the same axis, allows a transverse view across the department, creating visual unity. The angle in suspended ceilings allows the integration of mechanical equipment, promotes better soundproofing and makes possible a more generous ceiling height allowing the provision of natural light. Custom-made integrated and mobile furniture combines specificity of use and aesthetics. All of these unique design elements allow for adaptability of the space based on the unique needs of the architecture department.
COMPLEXITY
Intervention in a building constructed and renovated at various times brings its share of complexity. The tight deadline during the summer period was affected by this successive layer of construction techniques discovered during the work. Thanks to rapid interventions and the maintenance of a close relationship with the project manager and the Cégep, the actions undertaken were able to restore problematic situations.
