Bois-de-Liesse elementary school is located in a low-density residential area of the City of Dollard-des-Ormeaux. It has a large plot of land, bordered by 3 streets and a park. Built on a single floor, it includes fifteen classes, two nursery schools, a double gymnasium, a library, administrative and technical support premises, as well as the daycare service premises (multipurpose room).
LOCATION
Built on two floors, the new volume is built in continuity with the two-story volume of the existing gymnasium. This location allows an optimized connection to existing services on the site (electrical entry, sewer and aqueduct) and the installation of wells for geothermal energy, while respecting the margins required by zoning. Finally, it allows the parking lot along Saturn Street to be expanded to meet new needs and easy access to the gymnasium, open to the community. In terms of exterior developments, in addition to the expansion of the existing parking lot, the project includes the development of the bus drop-off point parallel to Sonata Street. It overlooks the student entrance and the two playgrounds. These two courses are enlarged to accommodate the new population of students.
CONCEPT
Thus established on the site, the expansion allows views of the park at the same time as good sunshine. It connects to the central corridor of the existing school via a corridor which partly runs along the schoolyard. Windows, pierced in this now opaque wall, will facilitate the circulation of students and staff. Its plan is simple, with premises distributed on either side of a central corridor. The visual openings at each end of this corridor on both floors serve as a pretext to particularize the protected entrance to the gymnasium, which will be accessible to the public, and the staff lounge, at the other end, and to divide the volume into two blocks slender, of differentiated colors. On the park side, the brick will be orange-red; on the courtyard side, it will be anthracite. The two colors match those of the school’s existing brick, the tones of which blend into the facing. The windows reflect the proportions and verticality of the existing windows. They are made up of large windows along the red block, which themselves have the same proportions, on a larger scale.
