DESCRIPTION

Team: Dino Barbarese, Robert Dionne, David Griffin, Hal Ingberg, Yvan Marion, Mario Saia, Guy St-Arnaud, Yvon Théoret The program included the recycling and restoration of the Latourelle Pavilion at UQAM (the former Palestre nationale built in 1919 ) in the house of modern dance in Montreal as well as compliance with the building’s standards. The building reflects the contemporaneity of its activities through its architecture. All these transformations appear as such within the old construction and are part of its history. The place assumes its dual vocation, cultural and academic. It promotes research and creation, as well as the presentation and dissemination of current dance. It houses two performance halls with 130 and 350 seats respectively and whose stage layout varies, their costume and set workshops, dressing rooms, foyers and service rooms. A multi-purpose studio, studios reserved for the university’s dance department, classrooms, offices, as well as a swimming pool, its changing rooms and service areas complete the program. The facades of the building were cleaned and restored, and most of the windows replaced. The work was carried out on an accelerated basis.
